I received 4 pups from Patti Thomas Brown of Hill Country Filas in Dyer, Tennessee. One of those pups appeared to have a broken leg and an infection. The pups also had coccidiosis and were infested with hook, round and whip worms. We took the injured pup to the vet the next day and were surprised to find out the leg wasn't broke it had been bitten and the nerve damage was so bad it couldn't be saved. We were also told that there was no human interaction involved in the healing of this wound. Pretty much the pup was left there bleeding in straw in a cold and wet barn. Because of the belly full of worms, coccidiosis and infection from the bite doc felt it was in the pups best interest to be put down. below is a picture of the pup and links to videos of him.

As soon as we were told there wasn't much hope for the pup with the bite injury we informed Patti and she gave her word that she would take care of this and all of the vet bills. She even went as far as telling my husband that she put a check in the mail on wednesday but of course nothing ever showed up.

This is a picture of the pup the other person that contacted me was supposed to get before all of this happened. As you can see this puppy who is kept in a barn is wet and cold looking. This picture was taken on a 30 degree day.

Patti, I’m going to start off saying that I am very disappointed and to be honest disgusted at what has happened. We went into this with the best intentions. I really thought we were going to get some nice pups. These pups are not in good health. They are skin and bones and have bellies full of worms. The pup with the broken paw will most likely have to be put down unless doc thinks we can save him. We have an appointment at 11:15 and will know more than. As for Mangia she has no temperament whatsoever and I would never consider breeding her. Once I go to the vet and see what needs done to get these pups back into good health we’ll work something out as to what were going to do with Mangia and the pups. I will have a vet bill with the pups that I feel you should cover along with the price of the pup with the broken leg.

We went to the vet and Mangia and the pups have coccidiosis, whipworms, hookworms and roundworms. The fawn male who we thought had a broken paw could not be saved. The paw was bitten not broken and when the bite occurred it was ripped to where it damaged the nerves. The pups organs were shutting down because of the raging infection he had and it was in the pups best interest to be put down. Attached are the vet bills for putting the fawn male down and part of the medications. They didn’t have the Drontel Plus in stock for the treatment of the whipworms so I will send you that when I pick it up. We want the price of the fawn male refunded $ 625.00 and the vet bill $ 122.40 which comes to $ 747.40 plus the Drontel Plus ( whipworm ) As for Mangia she has no temperament whatsoever and I don’t want her. I really don’t want the other 3 pups either but I’ll take the loss on them and find them good homes. I will not take the loss of the fawn male who had to be put down or the vet bills to get the rest of the pups back to good health. We can make arrangements to meet you half way to get Mangia back to you. You know I could have looked past the worms even though that is something that is easily prevented and should not have gotten to the point it has. What I cannot look past or understand is how you left that pup the way he was. That just isn’t right. And I don’t even want to start with what this has done to Katie. I need to know ASAP how and when you are going to take care of this. I am attaching pictures and videos of the fawn male that had to be put down.
John told me you called him last night. As soon as you look at the videos I will take them down. I just want you to see what Katie seen and understand how it hurt her. I am not looking to turn this into a pissing match or a bashing I just want whats right. I expected 4 pups 1 of the pups had to be put down and the other 3 have to be nursed back to health. All I want is the price of the pup and the vet bill. At first I was told I needed Drontel + for the whipworms but now I'm being told Panacur will take care of it. The only one being treated with the Panacur right now will be Mangia. Whipworm won't show up in the pups until they are about 3 - 4 months old and I will take care of that myself. The pups are on Albon and Nemex 2 right now and that was on the bill I already sent to you. I will be picking up Mangia's panacur today and that will be 49.25 for the medication and stool sample. We spent 2500.oo for these pups and have over 600.oo in the trip to pick them up. Now I have vet bills and had to put Katie through the ordeal of having one of them put down. The total for the pup and vet bills comes to $ 796.65 I need to know if you are going to take care of this or if your going to just blow me off.
Like I told John last night, you have never done me wrong on a dogdeal, and I will get a check in the mail to you this week. Do you still want to keep Mangia? If not, I will have someone pick her up and bring her home. No pissing match, no hostility. I feel terrible that Katie had to go thru it. Again, you have my utmost apologies. OK,? -patti
Patti was told on December 9 th that she needed to get her dog but as of today December 20 th she has made no effort to pick up her dog.
In her previous email she stated that she was going to put a check in the mail for the injured pup and the vet bills but that never arrived.
Here is an email from Gwen who was supposed to get a pup from this same litter.
Hi Robin,
I was just sitting here on the computer reading through my emails and so on and I just had to share with you in the midst of all this Hill Country madness that Patti called me on Sunday, Dec 9 at exactly 7:58 PM which is on my cell phone call log I missed the call because I was busy with my family so I called her back at around 9:00 PM that same night anyhow, her words to me was "I need to know if you could do me a huge favor, I gave the wrong dog to this lady, I gave Robin a pup with a bump on his foot and need to know if you would be willing to take her a replacement pup for me?" I said to her that I did not think it was a problem because I was driving through PA and the only thing that I would ask of you is if you could meet me part way so that I'm not getting completely off my route. I had actually spoken to her Friday December 7 because she stated that her heater was down and so on and that she was preparing for some guests that were spending the weekend. So when I spoke to her on the Sunday I asked her what happened to her guest and she stated that it was you and your husband but that you had some funeral to attend and that you couldn't stay so you and your husband chose to have her meet you in Kentucky so that you could hit the road and get back in time to this funeral.
I will say that once she told me that you had purchased pups from her I felt even better because I figured "hey if Robin is getting pups from her then she must be pretty good". Then, that's when I tried to reach you by phone on Monday, Dec 10 I think my first call to you was around 11:00 AM and then I followed through with the emails. All the while finding it strange that you had not contacted me regarding your pups and regarding the arrangement that Patti had discussed with me. I have to say I really started to think that you and her were in some sort of scam and I was the victim. I know it sounds crazy but you just can't trust anyone these days. I am sorry to hear that you received a pup with a borken paw and not a BUMP as she put it on it's paw. Seems like ever since I requested a picture of the puppy I was buying from here I was getting the run around then I received the picture of which I forwarded to you because I was concerned with the way she looked and BOOM the bomb blew. That's when I started receiving hostile emails from her and then that's how I found out what was going on with you and why you were avoiding me. I will say that she called me again on Saturday, Dec 15 at 11:13 AM and once again I missed that call because at that time I was busy emailing her as soon as I was done I checked my cell phone to see that I had missed her call. I immediately returned the call at 11:23 AM but she never answered me and then the back and forth emails between her and I started and they just started to get even more hostile. I should have known something was wrong when she kept giving me the run around about getting me a picture of the puppy and something was telling me it wasn't right but I kept giving her the benefit of the doubt, I guess I now know why she kept prolonging the picture. Well, I said it to you in a previous email and I will say it again THANK YOU for trying to speak up for me and trying to get Patti to do the right thing and refund me the money that I have put down on this pup you did not have to, and there was no obligation for you to do it but I guess that is what sets you apart from many others. I hope that in the end there will be some resolution to all of this and this madness can just end. Well, gotta go need to get to bed. Take care!
Gwen

Since I have only had dealings with one breeder, Rintha Grogan - I can only compare to her. Most on the boards have slammed her from one end of the country to the other and as far as I know she is finally not breeding dogs.
I can honestly say that the only thing wrong with Bo when I got him - he was filthy. He did not have worms - and was as healthy as a small horse.
So in comparison - Patti leaves her dogs lying in filth - sick - injured - and eaten alive by worms. According to her when her b###h died during delivery - she believes in "natural". When you get a dog from her it's been raised "natural".
I see no reason for this woman to continue to breed Fila's - none whatsoever. I can't see anyone that is a respectable breeder condoning this - especially after seeing that picture of the puppy with the broken leg. The area that was initially injured was starting to heal with no human intervention - it was left "natural" to heal on it's own.
No one can say that Patti is breeding for the "betterment" of the breed, now can they? It is painfully apparent that she is in it for the money only.
The fact that she is leaving Robin holding the bag on these dogs instead of getting in her truck immediately and coming after them - proves more than words can say. Ethical is not something that Patti has ever been.
